by skills it ment: Ingame skills: server skills script/programming mapping and etc.

and yes you need a sponsor, maybe post on other things around the forum so we can get to know you then maybe someone will sponsor you, also teamspeak is a good way to get active on our community.

But seriously, all you need to do is open the executable, select Connection, then select New Connection, and click. You should be shown an address book with "Servers" open as a parent directory, right click on it and select "Add Server", then type in the following information:

Label: NomNom
Server Address: ts.epicwar.com:8769
Nickname: ShadowLord
[] Allow server to assign a nickname (LEAVE IT UNCHECKED)
(X) Anonymous () Registered
Login Name: (this should be empty)
User Password: (see above)

There are no channel passwords, default channels or subchannels, so you can leave those empty.
